Educational Series

Workshops and Trainings

BIA-MA offers a variety of workshops, trainings and conferences for professionals, brain injury survivors and families. Each of these offerings provides important information needed to work with the growing number of individuals who have sustained a brain injury.

Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are included in the pricing for professional workshops and trainings. CEUs are approved for the following disciplines: Certified Counselors, Licensed Mental Health Counselors, Nursing Home Administrators, Physical Therapists, Social Workers, Educators, Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists and others.

Caring For Yourself in the New Year

The workshop is designed to teach participants self-care and stress relief strategies to help them in the new year as well as relaxation skills and motivational techniques geared toward helping participants achieve their New Year's resolutions.

How to Communicate With Your Loved One
(For Survivors and Family Members)
Community Rehab Care, Newton, MA

Do you want to be able to have more productive conversations with your loved ones? Learn how you can speak more effectively with each other. This workshop will provide practical solutions to everyday communication issues as give a basic understanding of how brain injury affects communication skills. Participants will work on identifying strategies that are helpful in improving communication skills for both survivors and family members.

Phineas Gage: A Guide to Mental Health & Brain Injury
(For Mental Health Professionals)

The workshop is designed to teach mental health professionals basic information about brain injuries as well as techniques to adapting therapy sessions to meet the needs of this population. It will provide a basic understanding of brain injury and its effects on mental health and cognitive functioning, identify strategies that are helpful in adapting treatment and provide resources for brain injury.

Reducing the Risk: A Hands On Approach
(For the General Public)
Westborough, MA
Presenter: BJ Williams

BJ Williams, BIA-MA's Manager of Prevention, American Council of Exercise (ACE) Certified Personal Trainer and three-time Iron Man Tri-athlete will teach participants how to build strength in their lower extremeties and core muscle groups to reduce the risk of falls through strength training and education. Participants will learn how to protect themselves from falls and how to respond and adjust to their environment.
